General Chapter opens
After months of careful preparation the
congregationís 35th General Chapter final opened
in Rome on Wednesday, 8 September, 2010, the feast of the
Nativity of Our Lady. For every Oblate, in Rome and beyond,
this is indeed a moment of grace which touches each one of
us individually and all of us together collectively.
The deliberations and decisions made
during this Chapter will determine the direction we take as
Oblates. Before the end of the Chapter a Superior General
and Council will be elected. The man chosen and his Council
will be responsible for confirming applications to perpetual
vows, will grant First Obediences and most importantly will
hold, in our regard the place of God. And so, what is going
on in Rome during these days should interest us personally
because it will eventually affect our lives.
We may not physically be in Rome,
but we can follow the proceedings by reading the reports and
updates posted on the General Administration website. Most
importantly, we need to pray for the brothers delegated by
us, members of the congregation, to go to Rome. They carry
our joys and hopes. They also carry a heavy burden.
May God be gracious to us, and bless us.
May St Eugene and the company of Oblates in heaven pray for
